The city is a gateway to archaeological sites such as Kuélap, a walled city with hundreds of buildings of the ancient Chachapoyas culture. To the north of the city, the huge Gocta waterfall is located in the middle of the jungle.



Cajamarca is a city in the mountainous area of northern Peru, in the Andes mountain range. The Cathedral of Cajamarca has an altar covered with gold leaf, while the Monastery of San Francisco has catacombs and a museum of religious art. Nearby is the Rescue Room, where the last Inca emperor, Atahualpa, was held prisoner.
